Voicemail has its uses, for example, when one won't be able to pick up the phone for awhile, but needs to relay a message immediately, or when other forms of communication are not possible, i.e. e-mail or texting is inconvenient or irrelevant.

However, I still usually end up ignoring it, thus rendering most of the pros as moot.

On the subject of high school friends, just because you're different, doesn't mean you can't be friends.

Pi is wrong.

Well, actually, maybe it would just be better to use what is currently known as 2*pi. I've always thought it would be easier if sine and cosine had periods that were just pi, not 2pi.

So should pi be 6.283185...? Should pi be the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its radius, instead of diameter? If so, it would take about 50 years for this to gain any momentum in the mathematical community.

Personal Blogs are Dead

So, I dunno what else really to say, haha. I set up this site before facebook, before twitter... maybe around the time of myspace. Social networking sites have taken over this space. Why blog when you have a tumblr, a youtube account, etc.?

I never kept this up even back when blogs were the big thang. Looking at my links on the sidebar, my friends blogs are also abandoned, the most recent post among all of them about 2 years ago.

Ok, that's a lie, my friends haven't completely stopped blogging. One of my friends Jeremy Ogul made a new blog, and he bothers to update it more often than once a year. But still... I don't take care of this site.

There's a lot of things wrong with this site that I can see. Layout problems, my custom-built blog is (I'm sure) riddled with problems, and is hard to improve.

I'm gonna make a new site. I dunno what it will contain. I will shut this one down pretty soon. Probably over summer, when I have time to. It probably won't be a new blog. It may be a site that looks kinda nice ish and holds my resume and CV or something.

I still use this web host as a personal image store, to store random things I made long ago, and as a test hub for nonsense I do. I actually don't know if I'll keep the dividebynull.net domain name. I know I'll keep rgochee.com... for obvious reasons.

So I guess this is me finally admitting that I'm not a blogger, despite how obvious it's been.

Of course, I really have no clue who reads this (especially with how I don't update). This is more for my own closure, to round up the archive of my posts.

Farewell for now!

Recent Downtime in Postage

So yeah. You may have noticed that there have been no recent posts. More likely, you may not have noticed until you read this. Either way, I intend to do something about this!

Mostly I don't know where I want to take this thing, how I want to continue it. I've also not had much inspiration, and if I have, then I decided I didn't like it after I got halfway through. I don't want to make stuff that no one (including me) wants to read, and I tend to be really critical of myself.

I'll be going to Australia today. 14-hour flight, joy. Then soon I'll be doing the UCLA college thing. Hopefully that will provide me with stuff to write about.

Just letting the 4.7* people who might care know that this isn't dead... yet. It's merely moribund with a slight chance of survival.

* Random number that has no statistical basis other than "what number is small, has a decimal part, and seems appropriate?".

New Layout

So I guess with the new year comes a (desperately needed) new layout. I don't know why I made the last one. I guess I just wanted something orange. While it worked, it was... bad.

So now there's this. It's rather easier on the eyes than a bright orange. It looks a lot better because of that as well.

Plus now that I have access to photoshop, I'm able to play around with images a lot better and thus this came. Not bad, eh?

One thing though... it's untested in IE6 since I don't have it anymore and I don't want to bother. So... sorry. Get Firefox.

This came about because I was tired of CMSes and working with some other sites. But, I'm going to have to do them sometime, because I said I would. And yeah. I can do it, it's just boring/frustrating.

Oh well. Effective procrastination! Instead of doing what needs to be done now, do something with less priority, but still needs to be done. Better than playing Spider Solitaire or Freecell... of which I played two games of each and won all four!

Fun with Regular Expressions

I wanted to set up a simple way to add HTML to my entries. In this way, people can also style their comments. Instead of <b>bold</b>, one can use asterisks. It should be *much* easier this way. I'm testing it right now by putting everything I added in, but I really hope it doesn't need -too much- any editing to my PHP.

I'll also need to add a few backslashes later to *stop* it from -changing- when desired. At least those. Then there's also compound-word protection- or sometypes of* under_score things_and such. Also* *-I-* -need- -work- on -*compounding- -these-*. It shouldn't be too hard2 to accomplish0, I hope.

Then there's the links (/) to add. Molto Marcato gets a free plug here. The links were actually the most difficult part, such as random text links to http://www.google.com. Or, I may get rid of the scheme and only do http://www.google.com and such. It might be a bit more difficult than I thought Oh yes, can't forget titles and maybe I'll add rel information if I need it later.

Now... lists and blockquotes?

  1. List item
  2. Second item
  • now
  • it's
  • unordered
I say that this is a quote!
Ryan (myself)

Image capabilities will likely be added soon.

An orange

So, I hope that these things will be fixed and soon you won't even see the code =P.

When that time comes, I'll probably make a new page explaining how to use it for commenting purposes and such. It seems Web 2.0 ish with it's neverending beta, since I'll probably keep changing it when I want to add something new.

What do ya'll think?

Layout Number Two

Enough with the blue... now we're moving on to something... brighter.

I had orange in my last layout, but it wasn't enough for me. Now I went all out. It still seems a tad bit... unoriginal, but it's more of a separation from the standard blog format. I'm too lazy to round the corners, however. I was kinda lazy on many aspects of this. Basically, I wanted more orange. That I got.

The reason this is somewhat rushed is that I wanted to get this done by June 1st. That way, new month, new layout. Thanks to, for instance, my physics and spanish projects both being due on Friday, this was pushed back. Even though I missed my personal deadline, I still want to finish it post haste. It's not horrible, but I have a few problems with the layout. I think it's an improvement, at least.

And I didn't want it to be too bright without being too dull. I hope that these orange shades don't kill the eyes.
